Miss A Columnist

Lisa Beth Miller is the Entertaining & Weddings Editor for Miss A. She has been involved in the wedding industry for several years. Lisa is a bridal consultant and director of marketing and public relations for Blush Bridal Boutique and an event designer at Main Street Weddings, both local wedding businesses. In this capacity, Lisa writes the blog, website copy, and promotional materials for these businesses and assists with event planning. She was formerly a bridal consultant and did marketing and public relations work for A Formal Affair Bridal and Formalwear Boutique and was the creator of their Bridal University workshops. Additionally, Lisa teaches English, journalism, and photojournalism classes at Liberty High School in Bealeton, Virginia. She advises the school's award-winning publications, Talon yearbook and Patriot Press newspaper. As junior class sponsor, she also assists in planning Liberty's prom. Lisa has written several published articles. These include an article about advising student publications for Accents (Southern Interscholastic Press Association’s journal),an article about the royal wedding for Northern Virginia Magazine, an article about local proms for Warrenton Lifestyle magazine, and four stories about wedding planning and wedding fashion for the 2012 Northern Virginia Bridal Guide. Lisa holds an undergraduate degree in English and journalism education from Millersville University of Pennsylvania and a graduate degree in education and library science from Longwood University.

Chance for Life Charity Poker Tournament to be Held at MGM National Harbor

Looking for an exciting social event in the DC area that will be both beneficial to a great charity and loads of fun? Chance for Life, a poker tournament, gourmet tasting, and fabulous social event is just the ticket. Scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017, the event will be held at MGM National Harbor for the very first time.

The Chance for Life Foundation was created by RedPeg Marketing CEO, Brad Nierenberg, in 2005 as an homage to his goddaughter, Kennedy Snyder who was fighting cancer.  What began as a small fundraiser has grown to be DC’s biggest and best charity poker tournament, with the foundation benefiting pediatric cancer research through Children’s National Medical Center Foundation and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The foundation has grown from support Kennedy to supporting many children battling cancer every day who need every bit of this support. 100% of proceeds for Chance for Life support the life-saving work of the country’s foremost leaders is childhood cancer research and treatment.

A star-studded charity event, Chance for Life features a premium poker tournament, wine and chef’s tasting reception hosted by a local celebrity chef, and an after party that keeps everyone dancing late into the night. To date, Chance for Life has raised more than $2 Million for pediatric cancer research and will only continue to grow thanks to the generous support of the Washington D.C. community, sponsors, friends and family.

 

This year, Chance for Life is partnering with the newest addition to the MGM Resorts International portfolio, MGM National Harbor. The brand new property offers an unrivaled setting of stunning panoramic views of the eastern shore of the Potomac River in Maryland. The $1.4 billion resort sits a short distance from Washington, D.C. to the north and historic sites, including George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate across the river in Virginia.
