Italian design factory Alessi presents a luxurious, high design collection of items for cooking, dining and decor in support of
the fight against AIDS via (RED).
(RED) is a longtime established proponent of AIDS awareness and fundraising working towards the goal of establishing the very first generation without AIDS in over three decades. Founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver in 2006, (RED) always presents exciting collaborations to inspire sales and raise significant funds for the cause. To date, they’ve raised more than $315 million via (RED) events and products through collaborations with the likes of Live Nation, Apple, Moleskine and Jonathan Adler. Funds specifically go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.
Nearly all of the pieces in the collection have been made with the signature red hue referencing the (RED) organization. The product selection includes the artistic Mediterraneo bowl by LPWK Design Studio designer Emma Silvestris available in two sizes, the Piccantino chili scruncher by LPWK designer Jim Hannon-Tan and the Parmenide cheese grater which doubles as quite the impressive tableware design object (and is also a part of a collection at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC).
The attractive You tea infuser by Miriam Mirri is easy to care for and may be used with any type of mug and the artist also designed the Big Love ice cream bowl created for two. Big Love
as well as the Diabolix bottle opener by Design CSA designer, Biagio Cisotti, were created as part of the Family Follows Fiction (F.F.F.) project exploring the shapes and structures of objects as inspired by children’s stories and primitive culture. Possibly two of the most highly sought after items from the collection are the adorable Anna G. and Alessandro M. corkscrews designed by designer/design manager/architect/theorist/architecture and design journalist Alessandro Mendini. They may be purchased alone or as a pair.
Shopping the (Alessi)RED collection is a simple and exciting way to give back – shopping for functional and highly desirable,
high design objects of art. A portion of the proceeds of each product goes towards providing 4-27 days’ worth of lifesaving medication for HIV+ individuals that also allows HIV+ mothers to be able to lower the risk of passing the virus to their unborn babies to less than 5%. “We believe that everything that we choose to do – as individuals and as a company – can have an impact on someone’s life. Alessi has always been about high design, beauty and functionality. We’re proud to say that we are now also about saving lives,” Alessi USA’s Managing Director, Paolo Cravedi. The (Alessi)RED products are available to be shopped online as well as via numerous brick-and-mortar retail locations around the globe.
