On Friday May 5, 2015, San Franciscans gathered at RN74 for the 16th Annual eBay Auction for Lunch with Warren Buffett Countdown Celebration. Each year a generous individual donates a bids a large sum to have lunch with seven guests and pick the mind of business mogul Warren Buffet. This year’s winner, Zhu Ye, the chairman of a Chinese online gaming company paid $2.35 million for him and seven guests to rub elbows with the investment tycoon at Smith & Wollensky in New York City.

Buffet who is no stranger to philanthropic causes has vowed to give away 99% of his wealth to charity. GLIDE holds a particular place in his heart as it is where he and his late wife, Susan would attend church services.

The money was donated to GLIDE, a nonprofit and crutch in the San Francisco community built on the pillars of unconditional love and compassion. Based in the Tenderloin, one of the toughest neighborhoods in San Francisco, GLIDE relieves the community by providing family and health services such as youth and childcare and free daily meals. The 2013 Census of the city of San Francisco found that 14% of the population lives below the federal poverty line. GLIDE operates on the power of wellness, spirit, growth, and leadership which has generated a successful daily meal program that has been feeding the underprivileged population since 1969 serving on average over 2,000 meals per day.
