What are three words that best describe you? Funny, Creative, Compassionate
Could you describe your business? I work for a boutique PR firm and do a little acting on the side.
What is your role, where are you based and what do you find inspires you most about your work? I am based in Atlanta and am responsible for public relations strategy and community relations for a variety of clients. I also have the pleasure of doing a bit of writing for clients as well. The thing that inspires me the most about my job in PR is the variety. Every day is different and, therefore, never boring. My side job allows me to be as creative as I want. I love that I get to do both!
Was there anything in your past that pointed you in the direction you’ve taken? I have honestly always listened to my instincts and gravitated towards things that I love. If something is telling me to take a different direction than what is expected, I am ok with that. I love to mix things up, go outside the norm, and I never let things get too stale.
What experience in your career are you most proud of? I was able to help a client create and write a coffee-table book. A dream of mine is to be a published author so to get to experience working with a literary agent, publisher and marketing team was amazing. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I get to do all of that on my own someday!
What advice would you share with those still in school? You have to start somewhere so don’t get hung up on a job title early on. Choose to work somewhere that will enhance your skills and with people that are interested in your career growth.
Why is giving back is important to you? I find it very rewarding to lend a hand to others. There have been many times in my life that someone has taken the time to help lift me up and I want to do the same thing for others.
How has giving back helped you? I have met the most incredible people through my volunteer work. The company you keep reflects who you really are.
How do you incorporate giving back into your life? I grew up volunteering so it is a very natural thing for me to do. I am fortunate to have a flexible schedule and a wonderful employer so I am able to find a nice balance.
Which charities are near and dear to you and why? I tend to gravitate towards children’s charities and the arts. Over the years, though, I have volunteered for so many different charities; American Red Cross, GA Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Junior League, Georgia Radio Reading Service, Camp Twin Lakes, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Page Turners Makes Great Learners.
When it comes to your own philanthropic efforts, what do you look back and feel made the largest impact on those that you set out to help? When I look back, I feel like I have had my hand in a lot of different things. Which is why I have decided to take 2015 to re-evaluate my involvement in all charities to see which one rises to the surface for me. I hope that my biggest impact is indeed ahead of me.
What is the most creative fundraising idea you’ve come across? I used to manage an event called Chocolate for CF (cystic fibrosis). It was a chocolate tasting event for young professionals that had a cool yet whimsical vibe. There was so much interest in the event simply because of the sweet name. We had a lot of fun playing with themes and were able to raise a lot of money. It was very popular for many years in Atlanta. But, as they say, the coolest thing is the latest thing so it had to come to an end after 10 years.
What are some must-attend charity events for you?
I love the GA CASA Luncheon & Fashion Show, and anything that the Junior League of Atlanta puts on since the money raised supports so many charities.
What brands do you wear most often? Vince Camuto, Michael Kors, Etsy jewelry artists.
What is your favorite beauty product? I have fallen in love with M-61 Power Glow Peel from Blue Mercury. It is simple to use, very effective and is my Sunday night staple!
How would you describe your home décor?A strong footing in classic pieces with dashes of modern touches. Though my home office can only be described as “quirky” with its blue floors, acrylic artwork, smoky mirrors and a miniatures collection!
What is your secret for hosting a great party? Great lighting, the perfect centerpiece and having someone else prep the food. Here are some of the centerpieces that I have made.
Favorite food: I am a total foodie! I love Mexican, Italian, Korean, Modern Southern, you name it. But, every now & then, I enjoy the simple pleasure of a grilled cheese with a glass of red wine.
Favorite cocktail: I have a new favorite cocktail which I recently discovered at The Belmont in Charleston. Vodka, lots of fresh lime & jalapeno-infused honey. It is a “sipper”, as they say.
If you could host a dinner party for 8, who would you invite living or dead?
- Meryl Streep– because that would be awesome
- Louise S.– my late grandmother that could rock gold lame better than anyone
- Mary Susan C.- a good friend with fabulous stories and endless sparkle
- BreeAnne C.– an emerging photography artist that is oh so talented
- Sarah B.– a self-titled “raging philanthropist”
- Kerry S.– my sister, because we understand each other with just a look
- Holly B.– because she enjoys a raunchy joke and serious celebrity crushes
- Molly T.– a great friend that thinks all of my jokes are hilarious
Favorite vacation spot: Hawaii
Do you have any tips for parents? Try not to judge me because I am not a mom.
Favorite TV show: Modern Family. Hilarious!
Favorite movie: Anything with Meryl Streep. Need I say more?
Favorite song: “I won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz. What a beautiful message about giving someone space when they need it and loving someone through a hard time.
