Miss A Columnist

Lesley Haenny is the Seattle Editor for Miss A. She is an Air Force wife now living in the Seattle area. Prior to living in Seattle, Lesley spent 7 years in Washington, DC, working as a Congressional liaison. She grew up in a small, mountain town in Southern California, sandwiched between an older sister and a younger brother. Her two hard working parents taught her to always go for the clearance rack, bring your lunch everyday, work hard for what you have, and always take the opportunity to travel and play outside. Lesley has been actively involved in various charities such as the Animal Resource Foundation, Komen For the Cure, Prevent Cancer Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the Race for Hope (benefitting the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure).

Recap: Seattle Fashion Week

Seattle Fashion Week returned to the Pacific Northwest this week after years on hiatus with a beautiful vengeance.  With the Emerald City Trapeze Arts as the backdrop, models strutted the runway for four days, wearing exquisitely created pieces made by local designers.

This year, a portion of the proceeds from tickets sold benefitted Runway to Freedom, Fashion First, Chance Fashion, and the Seattle Fashion Week Foundation. Runway to Freedom is committed to empowering survivors of domestic violence by funding local organizations that provide individuals and families with the education and resources needed to get out of dangerous situations and start living healthy lives. Fashion First supports the Inspire Youth Project, which provides the missing social and emotional links for at-risk youth affected by HIV/AIDS, and children transitioning out of familiar environments and supportive communities. Chance Fashion is a non-profit dedicated to providing resources and opportunities to fashion artists of all levels. With nearly six years of monthly fashion shows, this event has showcased a broad variety of talent from nearly every genre of fashion. Chance has also produced events outside Portland, San Francisco, and Hawaii, and has brought in designers to showcase from Texas and Florida.

Designers showcasing their pieces included: Dream Dresses by P.N.M., Erika Bond, Julie Danforth, Morifu, House of Halm, Karen Ashley, Michelle Lesniak, Joshua Christensen, Thoki Tafeni, Ravishing Marketplace, Gina Marie, 11 Degrees South, Poppy & Bloom, Beyond Threads, Elizabeth Jane, Like A Rockstar, Kate Kinkle, Desi Designs, N Spekktor, BBD Fitness, and Richard Sherman 25.
