Returning for its third installment, the Atlanta Moon Ride invites the city to hit the streets on Friday, June
19, 2015 to ride with flair, dress in costume and cruise through some of Atlanta’s coolest neighborhoods at night. The 6.5 mile night cycling event is the first of it’s kind in Atlanta and has grown to almost 3000 participants in it’s first two years. Established in 2012, the Atlanta Moon Ride allows bike enthusiasts to ride at night without having to battle traffic. All proceeds benefit local nonprofit organization, Bert’s Big Adventure.
Established in 2002, Bert’s Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day jour- ney to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families. To qualify for Bert’s Big Adventure, children must be between the ages of 5 and 12, live in “The Bert Show” radio listening area, prove financial need and have never been to Walt Disney World®. Following the annual trip, Bert’s Big Adventure provides year-round support through initiatives such as the Reunion Adventures, the Fairy Godparent volunteer program and additional charitable services. The trip and programs create a community of families that establish lasting friendships with others facing similar challenges.
Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. and participants are encouraged to come early to enjoy live music from Ruby Velle & the Soulphonics as well as a wide variety of food truck selections from The Fry Guy, Burger ATL, Tex’s Taco’s and more. Guests 21 years and up can also enjoy premium selections of cocktails and brews from ShockTop and Deep Eddy Vodka. The nighttime cruise will start at 10:00 p.m., with the course beginning and ending at Piedmont Park. Participants will safely ride a scenic and traffic-free route through the Virginia Highlands, Little Five Points, Inman Park and finishing on the Eastside BeltLine Trail.
The fee is $30 per rider and includes an Atlanta Moon Ride t-shirt (while supplies last) and entry to the kick-off party. All of the proceeds from Atlanta Moon Ride will support the work of local charity Bert’s Big Adventure, a nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.
Anyone who wants to ride the streets safely at night, whether you’ve got a street bike, a mountain bike, a wheel chair or a classic cruiser – all ages welcome!
