Miss A Columnist

Joanna Finney is an entrepreneur and enjoys writing for fun. Prior to joining Miss A, she traveled north, and then west, where she decided to stay a while working in the entertainment industry for all your favorite movie directors, producers, and actors. Most recently she moved back east to follow her dream and start her own business, which takes up most of her time. Joanna is a huge pet lover—especially of dogs (she has 2).

12-year-old Florida-born Evan Brinkman may be young, but this child star actor is a name you better start getting to know, as he’s going to be around for a long long time. The outstanding youngster stars in Judd Apatow’s upcoming big comedy film, Trainwreck, alongside Amy Schumer and other a-list stars.

But even being just 12, Evan has a great mind for using his fame to do better for others in the charity world, just like members of his family who support Girls Scouts, local Florida-based healthcare events and organizations like Holt International Children’s Services and Half The Sky.

I recently got the chance to speak more with Evan about his career, working with Judd Apatow, charity views and random fun facts. Check it out below!

Why is giving back so important to you? I’ve been very blessed with my family and their support of me to pursue my dreams. I have the desire to help those less fortunate than I.
How has giving back helped you? It keeps me grounded and gives me a greater appreciation of the important things in my life.
How do you incorporate giving back into your life? It’s a philosophy of generosity and giving that has been taught to me from my mom and dad. My mom has been a Girl Scout leader for 13 years and always has a service project in the works for our community. My father is a physician and does a lot of charity healthcare.
Which charities are near and dear to you and why? Holt International Children’s Services and Half The Sky. I have two sisters that were both adopted from Chinese orphanages as infants. Ellie is now 14 years old and Ava is 7 years old.

How did you feel when you got cast in your first big film Trainwreck? I was ecstatic and overjoyed. I even have my reaction on videotape as I read the e-mail from the casting director saying that I was chosen for the role of Allister.
What was your favorite moment while on-set filming? Judd Apatow gave me a $10 bill that he had found on the ground. He said  “When you win an Oscar, you can’t say I never did anything for you”.
You are still young, but what advice would you share with those looking at getting into the acting industry? I would advise them to have patience, don’t get discouraged and keep following their dream.
