Styles come and go but giving back always remain fashionable. This past Sunday, Rebecca Cahua, an independent Bay Area fashion designer hosted her 3rd Annual Fashion Show which debuted her 2015 Resort and Swimwear Collection and donated its proceeds to the #HashtagLunchBagSF.
Hosted at the Drake Lounge in SoMa, the night featured a cocktail party that was complete with an open bar, appetizers and desserts, a raffle and some DJ entertainment. The party was then followed by some surprise performances which included an acoustic Belarussian band and a trio of belly dancers whose talents aligned well with the theme of the night: Arabian nights.
The fashion show featured around a dozen swimsuit and resort pieces that tied in Cahua’s fashion principles of being “playful, sexy” and yet “classy and tasteful”. The pieces combined different approaches to the concepts of “swimsuits” and integrated animal print elements with Arabian and Middle Eastern elements to create an interesting mélange. Cahua’s designs were coupled with unique jewelry from la Ponce Boutique as well as interesting accessories such as studded headbands and a real live snake!
This fashion show is one of the first Cahua has put on since her participation in Sacramento Fashion Week and her pieces have already been worn by some notable names such as TV host, actress and model Arie Rose.
All proceeds from the event went to benefitting #HashtagLunchBagSF, a national movement that uses social media to raise awareness about hunger elimination programs and hunger related issues in the United States. Cahua has had a personal stake in the movement, having started her own nonprofit, Designing a Difference, which seeks to provide food and necessary supplies to the homeless living in the Bay Area and so far has positively impacted the lives of over 5,500 individuals.
