Aujha L. Alexander means sunshine, and she plans to shine bright with her present and future endeavors. Aujha was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She graduated, a proud Angel from Denver East High School in 2010. She is currently studying for her Bachelor of Arts in Television Production with a minor in psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She has also received her Associate of Arts from the Auraria campus located in Downtown Denver. Her love for writing began early on, and it has stuck with her over the years. She has worked with a variety of publications such as Denver 303 Magazine and HipHopRollCall.com. She also has experience in television and radio, having worked with Jazz 89.5 KUVO, Howard University's WHBC 96.3, and PBS' WHUT. When not in school or working, Aujha can be found wherever great music and tasty food are present. In her free time she enjoys reading, writing poetry, dancing, and exercising.

The Junior League of Denver Host’s The Journey Fundraiser For Child Literacy

Reading is fun[damental]! The Junior League of Denver will return for the third year to host their literary fundraiser, The Journey. On Thursday, March 12, 2015 former Denver Bronco, Reggie Rivers, will grace the stage as the Master of Ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center. Caroline Gash and Kikki Penney serve as the Junior League Denver’s 2015 chairs. Arlene Hirschfeld has also been named the honorary chair for the year. The event will honor the Junior League of Denver’s past, as well as look to the future while raising funds for the Denver community.

The Journey 2014 turned out to be a successful event. The Journey 2015 is expected to surpass last years’ success. Exemplary tennis player and 9-time Wimbledon Women’s Single winner, Martina Navratilova, has been invited to be the evening’s keynote speaker. In addition to the evening’s talent, The Journey will also include a cash bar, raffle, and a delectable meal. The event serves as a way for attendees to participate in purchasing and distributing books and other materials to families in need throughout the Denver Metro area.

The Junior League of Denver is a nonprofit organization founded in 1918. The organization specializes in helping and professionally training women. The Junior League of Denver’s mantra is to “Live the legacy. Give, grow, and get connected.” The nonprofit strives to develop civic leaders with a drive to improve the community. The Junior League of Denver has developed numerous programs including: Read2Kids, and Kids Connect. They organization also provides several volunteers to tutor children through Reading Partners Colorado, and Montessori Early Learning Centers. The nonprofit has also begun to establish Little Free Libraries in communities throughout the city. The Junior League of Denver has also provided a sponsorship for One Book 4 Colorado, which provides every 4 year old throughout the state with a carefully selected book through the public library system.
