Meera Rajagopalan is the Austin Editor for Miss A. A proud Longhorn, Meera earned her journalism degree from UT. Some of her hobbies include event planning, writing and baking. She loves trying new recipes and experimenting with food. Her latest creation was Pistachio Fudge. A tech nerd at heart, Meera loves cool iPhone apps and geeking out with friends about social media trends. Aside from the tech stuff, Meera also enjoys discovering new fonts. There’s something about finding the perfect font to help enhance titles. Besides her hobbies, Meera loves free stuff. So far besides tons of samples, she’s won concert tickets, movie passes (compliments of Do512) and a cooking class.

2015 Official Drink of Austin Benefitting Austin Food And Wine Alliance

Get ready to mix it up Austin. The Austin Food and Wine Alliance and the Tipsy Texan are getting ready for the Official Drink of Austin 2015.  This annual event benefits the Austin Food & Wine Alliance and will raise funds for culinary grants

The six participating bar teams include drink.well., Half Step, Odd Duck, Garage, Licha’s Cantina, and VOX Table. The teams will use Texas spirits including:  Dulce Vida Organic Tequila, Treaty Oak Distilling, Balcones Distilling, Garrison Brothers, Deep Eddy Vodka, White Hat Rum, Dripping Springs Gin, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Genius Gin, Revolution Spirits, Paula’s Texas Spirits, Tequila 512, and more. Judging this Austin-inspired cocktails and bar food are Jason Kosmas, cofounder of The 86 Company and a pioneer of the classic cocktail scene in New York City; Jack Gilmore, chef and owner of Jack Allen’s Kitchen; JD Elliott, last year’s Official Drink of Austin winner and bartender at qui restaurant; Dan Gentile, writer for Thrillist; and Austin’s own singer/songwriter Gina Chavez.

The Austin Food and Wine Alliance is dedicated to fostering awareness and innovation in the culinary community of Central Texas through grants, educational programs and events. Since 2012, it has awarded $75,000 in grants.
