This Valentine’s Day weekend, everyone is getting intimate with charity! On February 14th, 2015, in 38 cities across the country, people will gather to run 1.5 miles in their underwear for Cupid’s Undie Run. The purpose of the run is to raise money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and specifically for those suffering from neurofibromatosis (NF). Last year, this event raised $2.8 million; this year, their goal is to bring it up to a cool $3 million.
The Cupid’s Undie Run website explains, “NF is a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body, causing blindness, deafness, learning disabilities and severe chronic pain.” At this time, there is no cure for NF and there are limited options for treatment. Only effecting 1 in every 3,000 children in the United States, little is understood about this rare condition. The Children’s Tumor foundation is in desperate need of funding so that they may continue to conduct research on NF and formulate new treatments.
In Boston, Cupid’s Undie Run will take place through Fenway Park, with events starting at noon at The Lansdowne Pub. There will be an awards ceremony at 1 p.m. and the run will officially commence at 2 p.m.. Boston set their fundraising goal at $400,000, so let’s try to meet (or beat) that amount! There’s still time to register or volunteer – just be sure to sign up before February 14th. And don’t forget your favorite pair of underwear!
