Amanda Belo is a communications professional living in Chicago by way of North Carolina (GO HEELS!). Her heart will always belong to the East Coast. In addition to being passionate about the arts, culture, travel, food, and social good, Amanda has always loved to write and tell compelling stories. Amanda finds something new about Chicago every day and she cannot wait to explore more about the city and Chicagoans as a writer for Miss A. She earned her bachelor's degree in dance, with a minor in communication studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and her master's degree in public relations and advertising from DePaul University.

The Noteworthy Night: An Evening with The Second City

Join the Chicago Youth Symphony and performing arts supporters at the annual Noteworthy Night Gala Celebration. The evening will feature a special performance that teams up The Second City’s sketch comedy actors with the musicians of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.

There will also be a presentation of the 2015 “Note of Excellence” awards to honorees Jim & Ginger Meyer (Leadership and Service Award) and Northern Trust (Champion for Youth and Music Award). This year’s emcee will be T.J. Shanoff from The Second City.

Guests will enjoy cocktails and dinner, as well as silent and live auctions. Not ready to end the night early? There’s an After Party with music, dancing, drinks, and snacks.

Horizons for Youth, Kent Barnett and Lauren Heath, and family will host On Cloud Nine benefit at Venue One on February 7. The annual event celebrating 15 years honors the daughter of Barnett and Heath, Paige Barnett, who passed away from a rare virus. Horizons for Youth helps to provide educational opportunities to children from low-resource areas of Chicago.

On Cloud Nine will be held at Venue One in Chicago’s West Loop and will be emceed by Tom Waddle, former wide receiver for the Chicago Bears and current cohost of the hit sports talk radio show “Waddle and Silvy.”

Be My Valentine Family Event

The 8th Annual Be My Valentine Family Event will be held in Downtown Chicago on February 8. The family-friendly event features a brunch buffet and Valentine’s activities for children. Other activities will include sweet treat decorating and tips from Sweet Mandy B’s, ELTIF Designs bead bar for all jewelry making enthusiasts, make-overs from Rock Candy Salon and Spa, and more!

There will also be a silent auction held during the event with great prizes.

Proceeds benefit the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation.
