On March 25, 2015, Boston will host its first ever Autoimmune Disease Awareness Day, which will include a partnership with restaurants and companies across the city on the 50 Cents for 50 Million campaign, the Fight for Immunity Comedy Show at Laugh Boston. The 50 Cents for 50 Million Campaign is taking their message of strength and solidarity for those living with autoimmune diseases to those who need it most. With the help of Scion, 50 Cents for 50 Million is launching its campaign tour.
The tour will include a stop at Boston Children’s Hospital where the team will deliver “Strength Bunny” stuffed animals to children battling autoimmune diseases. They will also make several visits to the homes of children and teens living with autoimmune diseases in the Greater Boston area. To round out the tour the team will visit the Boston Home, a home for adults with advanced Multiple Sclerosis and other progressive neurological diseases as well as some of the campaign’s partners including Laugh Boston.
The 50 Cents for 50 Million Campaign is a Boston based initiative run by a group of dedicated students and young professionals passionate about finding a cure for the 50 million Americans battling 100+ autoimmune diseases – chronic illnesses that cause lifelong pain and suffering.
Autoimmune diseases are defined as those diseases resulting from a disordered immune reaction in which antibodies are produced against one’s own tissues and include Crohn’s Disease, Arthritis, Lupus, Psoriasis and over 100 more.
Roughly 80% of Americans can’t name a single autoimmune disease, even though they may know many people are battling them. This lack of awareness is alarming. As a society, we recognize autoimmune diseases individually but we must begin to view these diseases as a category in order effect change. The root of the many autoimmune diseases is the same, meaning that a cure for one has the potential to cure all.
All funds raised by the 50 Cents for 50 Million Campaign will go to support the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA). Please click here for more information.
