The New England Aquarium is an official charity of the 119th Boston Marathon®. Funds raised by their runners will support hands-on, interactive outreach programs that reach 45,000 children in diverse communities every year. Through the generosity of donors, Aquarium educators will inspire young children to learn about and protect the world’s oceans. Lauren Mack, volunteer for the New England Aquarium, got creative with her fundraising by producing a music video to gain support for her team. This hilarious, must-see promotional video is a parody of Frozen‘s “Let It Go,” and highlights the Aquarium’s best features, as well as the importance of protecting the world’s oceans.
Mack states: “I’m running because I believe in the mission of the Aquarium. Having grown up by the ocean, I understand the importance of protecting the blue planet. But our coastlines are limited, which is why institutions like the New England Aquarium are so important in creating new generations of educated and passionate ocean stewards.” (New England Aquarium)
The New England Aquarium’s initiatives include: organizing exhibits so visitors may interact with animals, continuing conservation and research, and providing educational resources and activities for learners of all ages. Funds raised by the marathon team in particular will go towards the NEA’s extensive outreach program, which reaches 45,000 children in underserved communities each year. They will become acquainted with marine life and the NEA’s goals through traveling education programs and the opportunity to visit the Aquarium.
