The holidays can prove to be an incredibly hard time for some children, and Seattle-based Art with Heart is offering a wonderful holiday gift to help. Art with Heart is on a mission to help children overcome trauma through creative expression. They are a nonprofit organization that offers therapeutic books and programs that help children that are struggling through illness, divorce, violence, or the loss of someone important to them.

For the holidays, they are offering, Draw It Out,  a book for children and a tool for therapists and counselors to help support children with complex and confusing emotions due to grief and loss. Developed under the guidance of 27 experts in the fields of Mental Health, Bereavement, Child Life, Art Therapy and Social Work, Draw It Out can help children articulate confusing feelings and perceptions or misconceptions about their situations. Artistic activities are a natural way for kids to express the inexpressible. Through the exploration of picture-making, children can explore the depths of their suffering and begin their emotional recovery. All proceeds help Art with Heart help more children through the power of creativity.

Festivities include lighting of the 20-foot tree, to be lit by Camp Korey campers at 4:30 p.m.;  live entertainment, hot chocolate, holiday cookies, and the opportunity to do some holiday shopping in The Country Store. Ten percent of honey sales in The Country Store will be donated to Camp Korey (excluding gift certificates).

Salish Holiday Tea in The Dining Room

Everyone loves getting chocolate for Christmas!  Seattle Chocolates Company is embracing a philanthropic mission to stomp out hunger here in the US. To that end, they have launched a social media campaign- #ChocolateGives for the fourth quarter to try to generate some additional donations for local food banks.  From November 1 through the end of the year, Seattle Chocolates is donating a serving of food for every item purchased from their website and for every mention or share of the hashtag #chocolategives.

The donations are made through a network of food banks including Food Bank for New York City, Greater Boston Food Bank, SF-Marin Food Bank and Northwest Harvest. They have donated 9,500 servings to date. Seattle Chocolates is also donating a serving of food for every item sold at their factory retail store to Northwest Harvest. Seattle Chocolates offer a variety of decadent flavors to choose from, including the Perfect Peanut Butter Truffle Bar, Birthday Cake Batter Truffle Bar, and Candy Cane Truffles (just to name a few)!
