Every holiday season in Austin, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas hosts their annual Lights of Love 5K. On December 5, 2014, the seventh annual event will take place amid a whole night of celebrating the Ronald McDonald families.
As in year’s past, the emphasis of the event is to raise funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas. This amazing group has been working for nearly 30 years to lighten the load of kids who are injured or ill so that their families can be close to their child while he or she is undergoing treatment. They have many programs including the Ronald McDonald Family Room and the Healing Hearts Program.
During Lights of Love, all of Austin will be able to support Ronald McDonald House and have a fun filled evening in preparation for the upcoming holidays in December. The 5K run is the main attraction as it winds through the Mueller neighborhood. More than just a background, the local residents come out to greet walkers and runners alike with carols and cocoa. In addition to the run, younger attendees will be invited into the Children’s Courtyard where they can enjoy the face painting and crafts for kids.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. to give families a chance to enjoy the attractions before the run later in the evening. At 6:30 p.m., the Family Mile will begin, followed by the wheelchair start at 7 p.m. and then the 5K start at 7:05 p.m. Join Ronald McDonald House Charities, their families and supporters for a holiday themed night of fun.
