Rebecca Richards is an estate planning and taxation attorney from New York. This “recovering attorney” is enjoying all that Miami has to offer – whether it be attending one of the many Miami festivals, touring historic Villa Vizcaya, or sunning on South Beach. Previously, Becky published scholarly articles on estate planning and taxation, and is now is exploring her creativity to write feature articles on a wide variety of topics. While living on Long Island, she was involved in several community service projects and hopes to continue this work in Miami by spreading the word to others through writing. Becky also enjoys music, all things outdoors, meeting new people, and reading. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Western Connecticut State University and her law degree from Hofstra University School of Law. Thanksgiving Volunteer Opportunities In Miami

Get involved in Miami this Thanksgiving with these volunteer opportunities.


For the second consecutive year, the Miami Marlins will be hosting a Thanksgiving Distribution day at Marlins Park. Feeding South Florida will be distributing 1,000 turkeys and fresh produce to area families. With the support of the Pincho Factory, families will also receive stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Volunteer with Branches to deliver Thanksgiving meals to families and individuals in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Delivery drivers are still needed at four Miami-Dade sites. Each year, Branches serves more than 20,000 people with the help of over 5,000 volunteers. Click here to support the Thanksgiving delivery program with a donation.

Run, jog or walk at the Baptist Health Turkey Day Miami 5K or 10K Turkey Trot. On race day, Baptist Health will be collecting canned goods to be donated to Feeding South Florida for distribution to those in need for their Thanksgiving meals. Each participant who donates two canned goods will be entered into a raffle to win a complimentary race entry for any 2014-2015 Florida race. All participants will receive a t-shirt with registration. Children ages 2-9 can join in the Turkey Day Kids’ Trot and receive a t-shirt and a finisher medal.

Volunteer to serve a meal to those without food or shelter at the Homeless Voice Shelter. Volunteers are needed to help serve a Thanksgiving brunch, early dinner and late dinner. The Homeless Voice Shelter is also accepting donations to purchase a Thanksgiving meal.
