A few weeks ago Walking With Anthony and Washington Redskins Alumni hosted the 2nd Annual Charity Celebrity Golf Tournament & Dinner. The event was held at the Country Club on Fairfax on September 22. Walking with Anthony is a nonprofit organization dedicated to change recovery outcomes for those with spinal cord injuries. In addition to working toward alternative outcomes, the organization also participates in a lot of fundraising for financial assistance in treatment and rehabilitation, raising awareness, and expanding research opportunities for spinal cord injuries.

This year executive director of Walking With Anthony, Anthony Purcell, was in for a big surprise. Washington Redskins Running Back, Alfred Morris, made an appearance during the dinner. In addition to that wonderful surprise, former Redskins Tight End, Richard “Doc” Walker was chosen to be the emcee of the event. There were over 200 notables in attendance including; Ken Harvey, Mike Bragg, Brigg Owens, Roy Jefferson, Jimmie Jones, Ken Jenkins, Ravin Caldwell, Ted Victor, Richard John, Ben Foster, and Hall of Famers, Darrell Green and Charley Taylor.

Walking With Anthony and Washington Redskins Alumni Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner raised over $170,000. The organizations were able to purchase a new Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) RT300 bicycle for 19 year-old spinal cord injury victim, Tucker Winfrey. The FES bike was purchased from Restorative Therapies for $22,000. The specialized bicycle is designed to help those with neurological disorders to achieve their full potential.  The remaining funds raised will go toward research, rehabilitation, and treatment purposes.
