National YoungArts Foundation Launches Outside The Box Performance Series In Miami

On Saturday, October 25, 2014, the National YoungArts Foundation will launch its newest artistic outreach initiative, Outside the Box, a series of free, multi-genre performances by YoungArts alumni. The inaugural event will feature a collaborative performance by Grammy Award-nominated cellist Dave Eggar; dancers Michele de la Reza, Ernest Baker, Andrew Nemr, Brittanie Brown and Allysen Hooks; and jazz musicians Kate Davis and Jake Goldbas.

Guests will enjoy food and beverages from local restaurants, including JugoFresh and Bunnie Cakes, and can recline on furniture provided by IKEA, one of YoungArts’ supporters. Future Outside the Box events are the Borscht Film Festival on December 16, 2014 and Miami City Ballet and YoungArts alumnus Tarell McCraney on January 30, 2015.

Outside the Box is designed to inspire young artists, engage the community and increase awareness and appreciation of the arts. The program supports the YoungArts’ mission of identifying talented young artists in the literary, visual, design and performing arts and providing these youth with opportunities to continue their artistic development with mentorships, scholarships and career opportunities.

The program is supported by a grant awarded by ArtPlace America, a conglomeration of several national foundations and donors. ArtPlace’s national grant program provides funding to organizations that seek to improve social, physical and economic futures and transform the community through artistic and cultural initiatives.

Since its founding, the foundation has awarded a total of $6 million and facilitated more than $150 million in scholarships. Students have worked with a variety of nationally-recognized artists, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Joan Lader, Robert Redford, Martin Scorsese and Marisa Tomei.
