On Wednesday July 23, 2014, Chef Rick Bayless awarded full-ride scholarships to two Chicago Public School students. The event took place at Rick Bayless’ famous Chicago restaurant: Frontera Grill. The celebration included an intimate award ceremony along with some appetizers and margaritas.

Every year a Mexican-American student from the Chicago Public School System who has shown dedication and passion in the hospitality industry is given the scholarship. This year two were given via Frontera Scholarship Program and the Kendall College Trust.

“It has been super exciting for us to see this amazing talent come out of the Chicago Public School System,” Says Bayless.

The winning students Paula Salgavo and Bianca Huerta were not only awarded the full-ride scholarships to Kendall College’s College of Culinary Arts, but also an internship at Rick Bayless’ restaurants.

The Frontera Scholarship covers direct tuition costs for the AAS in baking and pastry or AAS in culinary arts for the winner.

Kendall College of Trust focuses on providing support financially for students in need who are enrolled in Kendall College’s culinary and hospitality programs.
