A family-owned and operated business for more than 29 years, South Florida retailer Evelyn & Arthur provides a mix of contemporary and resort-style clothing for stylish women. With its intimate, personalized approach and use of personal wardrobe consultants who treat its customers like family, the company is also committed to philanthropy and making a difference in the community.

The company supports local breast cancer initiatives and helps create awareness for early detection of breast cancer. Under the leadership of Ashley Pogue, a buyer for Evelyn & Arthur and co-chair of the Breast Cancer Walk, Evelyn & Arthur has created a team for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2014 West Palm Beach Walk. Pogue knew that Evelyn & Arthur would support the cause because Evelyn & Arthur president Adrianne Weissman has a “big charitable heart.”

“Women’s health, and especially support for those affected by breast cancer, is something we feel strongly about supporting,” said Weissman. “We see many of our shoppers and friends come through our doors who are battling, or have beat, breast cancer. This is just a small way we can play a part in helping to one day find a cure for the disease that affects so many,” she said.

On each Friday of August and September, Evelyn & Arthur staff are invited to dress down in exchange for a small donation to the American Cancer Society. The “dress down” attire, which is not typical of employees, will encourage discussion between staff and customers about breast cancer and how everyone can contribute. Additionally, during October, Evelyn & Arthur will donate 100% of the proceeds from sales of its pink and light pink pashminas to the American Cancer Society. The lightweight wraps are perfect for day and evening wear and will be sold for $28.

Weismann, daughter of founder Evelyn, is a breast cancer survivor and long-time supporter of the fight against breast cancer.

“Being able to help other women, including customers, friends and others, go through the process has been a rewarding experience because I’ve been able to bond with these women and provide advice and encouragement from my own personal experience,” she said.

Each of the company’s eight store managers is encouraged to be involved in a charity of choice. The company then provides additional support to each employee’s chosen charity. Some stores have offered charity fundraiser raffles, organized in-store evening fundraising events and featured a charity based on a loyal client’s request. For example, they may offer a discount on merchandise and donate a percentage of the proceeds to the charity of choice.

Evelyn & Arthur is continually supporting local causes. The company participates in over 20 charity fashion shows each year and donates gift certificates to be auctioned off or given as gifts. Last year, Evelyn & Arthur helped dress caregivers in a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Community Care in Stuart. During the first quarter of 2015, Evelyn & Arthur will donate funds and fashions to the Designer Show House hosted by the American Red Cross Palm Beach.

“We are always brainstorming ways to reach out to the community,” said Weissman. “The store has become a vehicle to help local charities and we are happy to help in any way we can.”

The 2014 Breast Cancer Walk will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Meyer Amphitheater in West Palm Beach. The annual event unites over 6,000 people to honor breast cancer survivors, increase awareness, and raise funds that help the American Cancer Society lead the fight against breast cancer through research, community education and added access to care.

At the Walk, Evelyn & Arthur will host a survivor fashion show during which they will dress local breast cancer survivors. The company is also donating more than 300 goodie bags to be distributed to survivors as part of the Breast Cancer Walk festivities. For more information on the walk or to donate to the cause, click here.
