Miss A Columnist

Lesley Haenny is the Seattle Editor for Miss A. She is an Air Force wife now living in the Seattle area. Prior to living in Seattle, Lesley spent 7 years in Washington, DC, working as a Congressional liaison. She grew up in a small, mountain town in Southern California, sandwiched between an older sister and a younger brother. Her two hard working parents taught her to always go for the clearance rack, bring your lunch everyday, work hard for what you have, and always take the opportunity to travel and play outside. Lesley has been actively involved in various charities such as the Animal Resource Foundation, Komen For the Cure, Prevent Cancer Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the Race for Hope (benefitting the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure).

On Saturday, August 23, 2014, the Bellevue Arts Museum will host W.E.R.K. 2014 Ladies Night Out, benefiting the NEWShine Organization.

Founded in 2013 by Maurcrei Thibodeaux, the NEWShine Organization is a 501 c(3) non-profit that combines the ambitious imaginations of women with their dreams of owning and starting small businesses in the Puget Sound area. Members of NEWShine are veterans and newly established business owners from a wide array of professions who come together to create networking opportunities to empower other women in business, marketing and how to best serve their community. As their mission states, “Northwest Entrepreneurial Women shine as a new hard working breed, setting the tone for the future! N.E.W. Shine, Shared Success.”

W.E.R.K. 2014 is a charitable ladies only night out structured to raise rape awareness. NEWShine is partnering with the YWCA-Greater Puget Sound and ReWA Seattle for the one night event, with special guests Tami Roman from VH-1’s, Basketball Wives, one of Seattle’s most famous drag queens, Mama Tits, singer Heather Gin and DJ Lady Jane. The little black dress cocktail party will bring women in business together and offer fashion, shopping and entertainment all night long.  With food, wine tasting, a no-host martini bar, free gifts, raffles and local artists and businesses selling “one night only” goods and services, this is an event not to miss!
