Could you describe the nonprofit? Avant Chamber Ballet seeks to create and maintain a model that no ballet company has executed before, in a time where new models are becoming increasingly necessary for professional dance companies. By taking advantage of the extraordinary artistic talent in the D/FW Metroplex, we can create works that are finely-crafted and masterfully-developed, while maintaining a company that is truly chamber-sized. Our commitment to the marriage between live dance and live music will always remain the core of our artistic resolve.
Where are you based and what sets the organization apart? We are based in Dallas, TX. What makes us different is that every one of our productions has live music and dance. It is a full experience for the audience and collaboration for the artists. Most dance companies in DFW and the US perform with recorded music.
What initiatives is the organization currently working on? This year we are launching the Women’s Choreography Project. Even though the majority of ballet dancers are female, there are very few female choreographers being presented by major companies. This yearly project will give established and emerging female choreographers the opportunity to create a new work and have it performed by a professional dance company.
What annual fundraising events does the organization hold? ACB hosts private parties and concerts for patrons as well as open rehearsals and discussions with the directors.
What achievements is the organization most proud of? Within three seasons ACB is now the most respected ballet company based in the city of Dallas. We have gone from an idea to 18 professional dancers and four major productions a year plus smaller appearances and our Free Chamber Music Series.
