For the 10th year, Bat Fest will give Austin a deeper look into our iconic flying mammal and our local colony. Approximately 1.5 million bats will emerge from beneath the bridge to wow spectators on the night. All summer, this view is available to Austinites and visitors, many of whom come just to see the spectacular sight of the largest urban bat colony in North America. Bat Fest has taken to celebrating the bats and allowing attendees to learn more about them. To facilitate this education, Bat Conservation International will be present at the event to answer questions. As in year’s past, Bat Fest will also partner with this nonprofit to aid in their mission of conservation and protecting bats along with bat habitats. In addition to watching and learning about bats, attendees will have the chance to enjoy live music, check out the more than 150 vendor booths featuring local artisans and participate in the bat costume contest. The lineup includes Blue October, Saints of Valory, 8Stops7 and many more. Children will be able to enjoy kid friendly activities and all will be able to eat delicious local fare. An estimated 20,000 people will come out to view Austin’s favorite animal this year at Bat Fest.
