On June 13 – 17, 2014, important Italian Market Exhibition, Convivio hosted their biennial trade show in aid of charity with the main goal to raise funds for Anlaids (Italy’s national association for the fight against AIDS).
Convivio was founded in 1992 by popular fashion designer Gianni Versace, who then reached out to many other fashion labels such as Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Prada, Missoni, Moschino, Fendi and Robert Cavalli. The show is held every two years, and the brands have participated at every show since Convivio was founded. Alongside the big names of international fashion designers, this year there is a grand number of participating firms, including new market fields which include furnishings, home decor, tourism, jewelry, cosmetics and even underwear that joined the cause by donating their products to the show at 50 percent off, with proceeds going towards Anlaids. By the brands participating in the trade show, it allows them the opportunity to show their philanthropic side.
The involvement of everyone who is determined to do the right thing and support Convivio has helped immensely make Convivio an international event. What’s unique about this charity event is that it consists of the biggest names in fashion and builds awareness in the institutions as well as the individual volunteers. Since the finding of the charity event, the visitors of the show have increased rapidly, from 22 000 in 1992 to over 50 000 in 2012. Volunteers at the trade show have also doubled from 400 to 800 over a time span of 20 years.
The total amount of money raised this year at Convivio reached an insane amount of over 2 million euros!
