Last Wednesday the Hot Rocks Griller Challenge returned to Elway’s located in Cherry Creek this year. Although there were storm clouds overhead with sporadic sprinkling, the event carried on as if it were a typical sunny, summer day in Denver. The event was very sophisticated with complimentary valet, complimentary alcoholic beverages stationed around the venue, a 520 Magazine photo station, and even a red carpet leading to the VIP lounge. Chris Daniels and the Kings provided live entertainment, making the crowd migrate to the front to jam out to some oldie-but-goodies.
There was a vast array of chefs in attendance, all with specialty sliders to die for, the return, and enjoy all over again. Most stations also offered specialty cocktails. This year Adam Branz of Bistro Vendôme was the big winner in first place as “Chef’s Choice” for the delicious pork belly slider on sourdough with an apricot compote and Camembert. Tyler Wiard and Aniedra Nichols of Elway’s Cherry Creek took home first place in the “People’s Choice” category with their barbacoa torta slider with an onion-radish slaw, grilled Oaxaca cheese, and a creamy avocado dressing. Adam Branz came in second in the “People’s Choice” category, with Felice Price of Continental Sausage following closely behind in third place with a jackalope sausage slider on a Wimberger’s pretzel bun with an apricot mustard and citrus red cabbage. There were also great deserts, complimentary wine, and a friendly pop-a-shot competition to keep the crowd entertained.
Plenty of people showed up to this year’s Hot Rock’s Griller Challenge. The admission line stretched into the parking lot at the start of the event. With so many people in attendance, the event raised quite a bit of money for charity. The 2014 proceeds were donated to the Denver Health Foundation for the Men’s Health programs.
