We kick off our glimpse into royal motherhood series with Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. Known for her elegantly modern style sense, interests in fashion and design, her hand-on sensibilities towards parenthood and loyalty to her more than 25 patronages including Maternity Worldwide, the Christmas Seal Foundation, the Danish Nest Show and the Danish Refugee Council, Crown Princess Mary is a mother of 4 under the age of ten and wife to Crown Prince Fredrick.
Over her ten year marriage to Fredrick, the Australian native Mary has gradually taken more of an active role in the fashion community as well as a direct hand in charities that reach women and children. One unique take is the development of the Mary Foundation.
The Mary Foundation was founded in 2007 from the seed idea that “everyone has the right to belong”. Over the course of the last few years, the Foundation has taken on the causes of bullying, domestic violence and combating social isolation and loneliness in the public arena through grants, initiatives and youth projects. One of the most current and innovative projects is the Youth Think Tank that enables young adults aged 15-24 to share their thoughts and provide their elders with a glimpse into the issues that matter most to them within the framework of the Foundation. Centered in the heart of Denmark, the Mary Foundation is striving to improve the lives of women and children combating issues that touch lives worldwide.
Active in social and philanthropic arenas, Mary has been dubbed Most Elegant by the readers of Hello! Magazine, nominated a Global Young Leader by the World Economic Council, and she continues to bring a spotlight to Danish design, industry and commerce worldwide. Recently celebrated the anniversary of her “fairytale” wedding, the spotlight continues to be on this royal family and in particular this royal mother as she and her husband step into more of a prominent role in the leadership of Denmark. It will be interesting to see how she continues to balance the demands of motherhood and the fuller shoes of future queen of Denmark.
