Ambassador Andrew J Young has been a civil rights pioneer for generations, working along the side of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. So it was my honor and my pleasure to attend the second annual Pass on Blessings Awards.
The Andrew J. Young Foundation presents awards every year to American Legends who helped build modern Atlanta, modern America. The Foundation shares the vision, values, and virtues that shaped the life of U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, a two-term Mayor of Atlanta, and champion for human rights Andrew Young. Award-winning documentaries, lectures, international health projects, and community engagement initiatives are among the Foundation’s programs that share Ambassador Young and his wife Carolyn Young’s vision and views. This year’s event was held at the historic Buckhead Theatre here in Atlanta, Georgia.
This year’s emcee’s were Channel 2 anchorwomen Monica Pearson and Celebrity Actor and Actress Boris Kodjoe and his wife Nicole Ari Parker. With whom we got to sit down and hear how Ambassador Young and his foundation impacted both their lives. They also shared some advice to the next generation of Americans.
What are your feelings about tonight’s events for Ambassador Young and his foundation?
Boris: It’s a blessing and an honor for us to host this birthday celebration for Ambassador Young. It’s actually one of the biggest honors we have received.
Nicole: It gives the opportunity to say “Thank You” for everything you do.
In a struggling economy and crazy world what advice can you give today’s young people?
Boris:”Be mindful of everything you do on social media. Everyday you leave your house, you have to be ready to meet the person that may change your life.”
Nicole: ” Finish what you start. Once you get out there in the corporate world don’t be afraid to ask for help. Don’t doubt yourself, you can always be hired by any company but you can also start you own.”
