April is annually known as Autism Awareness month—a designated time for supporters to come together for 5k fundraisers, art showings and galas to raise money, educate the public and increase the national dialogue of autism in our society. Although officially held on Saturday, May 3 this year, the Walk for Autism-Charleston will be celebrating Autism Awareness month with a fun-filled morning event at the historic Hampton Park from 7:00 a.m. to noon.
The day will feature activities for the whole family with free refreshments, jump castles, live music, therapy dogs and haircuts by Great Clips. There will also be a silent auction and autism merchandise. Registration for the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and the walk will start at 10:00 a.m.
Walk for Autism-Charleston is a nonprofit organization that raises money to help families affected by autism. The funds go towards scholarships for treatment and intervention through behavioral and relational development programs.
