Chances are, if you’ve been on the campus of UNC in the past few months, you’ve heard someone talking about the Dance Marathon and shouting about FTK (For the Kids- the motto of the marathon). Well, the long anticipated event is finally here! This 24-hour marathon benefits the patients and families of the NC Children’s Hospital. It does so through various grants and programs, such as Parent’s Night Out.
The money raised supports families, providing them with gas gift cards and food, and even paying their bills in emergency situations. This past year, the Marathon raised over $483,000, a number they hope to beat this year. The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, and last until 7:30 p.m. the next day.
Dancers are required to stand on their feet for 24 hours, during which they will participate in fun activities such as watching movies, walking around Kenan Football Stadium, and participating in dance performances. They will also get the chance to hear families and children from the hospital speak about the impact the UNC-DM has made on their life.
