Dating from 1906, the Historic City Park Carousel features beautiful hand-carved animals (some over one-hundred and twenty-five years old). With fewer than one-hundred of these wooden carousels nationwide, the attraction holds a special place in New Orleans history, continuing to entertain adults and children alike.
A non-profit organization, the mission of Friends of City Park is to “maintain and increase the value and importance of City Park as a place of, natural beauty, culture and education for the public.” Efforts include organization of Celebration in the Oaks, upkeep of the Botanical Garden and Popp Fountain, and more.
