The American Heart Association and National Sponsor, Macy’s hosted Go Red for Women Event, an informative and pampering event on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Westfield Valencia Town Center. For the past 10 years the Go Red for Women Movement has brought awareness to how heart disease affects women.
Women received a Girlfriends Go Red Passport which was stamped at each of the 6 booths. The booths were a combination of makeup from Bare Escentuals and Estee Lauder to Fragrance Bar by COTY. The American Heart Association (AHA) hosted 2 Health Stations where the women got their Blood Pressure checked and learned the proper way to perform CPR. Once the women got their passport stamped they were entered to win a $100 Macy’s gift card and received a complimentary glass of wine from Salt Creek.
Since 2004 the AHA has been creating awareness around the No. 1 killer in women – Heart Disease. Heart Disease often called the Silent Killer takes the lives of about 1100 women a day. In order to battle this disease AHA launched Go Red for Women, as part of the movement the Red Dress has become the symbol to battle heart disease.
Macy’s is the National Sponsor for Go Red for Women and has been involved for all 10 years of this movement. According to Store Manager Del Hernandez women are both the majority of the workers and shoppers at Macy’s, making the Go Red for Women a movement close to their heart. As part of Go Red Macy’s will donate 100% of the proceeds from the Go Red Dress Pin to the American Heart Association. Macy’s has donated over $40 Million in the fight against heart disease since the start of the Go Red for Women movement.
