The issue of health education has been very important to Sarah Hillware, she even made it her platform and went on to win America’s Miss District of Columbia in 2012. After five months of visiting the DC schools, she witnessed the necessity to help educate young girls on healthy life habits and so she created Girls Health ED. Fast forward a bit and here we are, celebrating the one year anniversary of the organization!
Girls Heath ED targets the four main aspects of a girls healthy lifestyle: nutrition/body image, physical activity, reproductive health and skin care. I am not sure if you know, but due to lack of funding not all DC schools have PE and health education. Some of these girls do not have the information available at home either, so where will get this vital information from? Girls Health ED is striving to be fill that void and give these girls the knowledge they would need to live a long and healthy life. The organization has not been around for long but it already includes four school affiliates. Long term goals are to spread and hopes to educate girls age 8-17 by bringing local health professionals from relevant fields to teach seminars in DC area schools.
So be sure to mark you calendars and be sure to join Sarah Hillware along with other philanthropists in the DC area support, sip and mingle. The night will include notable raffle giveaways such as jewelry, fitness training and life coaching sessions. This event is important to the organization so that it can raise the necessary funds for health education classes and materials; 100% of ticket sales will be donated to Girls Heath ED.
