The Sips and Suppers event celebrates its fifth year to help raise awareness for homelessness and hunger by benefiting DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table. On Saturday, January 25, Sips celebrates the contribution of young people make to feeding and supporting their community with a lively cocktail reception featuring the metro area’s top chefs and mixologists. On Sunday, January 25, Suppers features the country’s finest chefs preparing meals in over 29 private homes throughout the city to more than 550 guests. The revenue from these two events goes to the two organizations, DC Central Kitchen and Martha’s Table.
DC Central Kitchen serves up to 10,000 meals daily to area homeless shelters, afterschool programs, and non profit organizations serving low-income DC residents. They also offer a Culinary Job Training Program that empowers at-risk, unemployed adults to embark on new careers. Martha’s Table helps over 1,ooo people daily deal with the immediate effects of poverty and help to find long-term solutions with education, nutrition, and family support services. Martha’s Table provides day care services, college readiness, after school and summer programs, grocery and nutrition programs, and a clothing store.
