A Christmas Carol is now playing at The Stage Theater in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The Denver Center Theatre Company has produced the holiday classic A Christmas Carol since 1990 with a few gap years. For many families the annual play is a holiday tradition. The current performance playing at The Stage Theater is both familiar and fresh. Ebenezer Scrooge is played by Philip Pleasants, who has been playing Scrooge in various productions of A Christmas Carol for 40 years. He is perfect for the role and also adds just the right amount of comedy to the grumpy character. In fact many of the main characters have played their roles before in Denver.
The costumes by Kevin Copenhaver were exceptional and helped express the time period. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come was ominous and may be disturbing for young children. The fog and strobe lights also create a haunting effect. Overall the play was upbeat and focused on the inspirational aspects of the story. There is not a bad seat in the Stage Theatre. The performances always feel intimate and close. The surprise ending will also keep the children happy. The play is the perfect opportunity to rejuvenate your holiday spirit!
