To date, 2,863 children have been evacuated on 99 rescue missions.continues the work of saving the disaster’s youngest victims, preparing to airlift more children to safety on CCOC’s next rescue mission. To date, CCOC has saved 2,863 children from the contaminated living conditions surrounding Chernobyl, which remain a grave danger to residents of the surrounding region. As the rate of cancer and other radiation-related diseases continues to soar in the contaminated areas, CCOC’s goal is to airlift as many children to safety as quickly as possible and to provide them with medical care and their essential needs for a second chance at life. To date the galas have raised millions of dollars to save the Children of Chernobyl.
“On this significant anniversary, thousands of children every day are still feeling the tragic consequences of the Chernobyl disaster,” said Producer Nancy Spielberg, Founding Board Member of CCOC. “They are facing devastating illnesses from radiation contamination — radiation that will be with us for thousands of years.
