Everyone knows that Germans love beer and parties, making Berlin a great spot to ring in the New Year. To add to the vibrant night-life this city already has, New Year’s Eve magnifies it to a larger-than-life scale. Enjoy an outdoor party in front of the Brandenburg Gate with live music, performances and fireworks at midnight.
If one of your resolutions for the New Year is to be a healthier and better person, consider doing the “pancake run” or “Pfannkuchenlauf” on New Year’s Eve. Expect crazy costumes from the runners and treats at the finish line to sweeten the deal. The 38th Berlin New Year’s Run, a 5k through the Grunewald forest, will coach you to feel less guilty about your consumption later in the evening and make you feel good about yourself. Sometimes nicknamed the “jelly donut run,” runners will receive a donut upon completion of the circuit. One of this event’s sponsors, Adidas, donates thousands of shoes yearly to underdeveloped countries. Lacing up your sneakers never felt so good.
WHEN: Tuesday, December 31, 2013
WHERE: The 5k starts at SCC-Laufzentrum Mommsenstadion. The fireworks that evening will be launched over the Brandenburg Gate.
TICKETS: Both events are free of charge.
