Miss A Columnist

As a recent Japanese-Polish American Evergreen graduate Kaye Michalak was focusing on social anthropology with a passion for social justice. Her drive for social justice has always been present while living and traveling abroad as a daughter of a former foreign service officer. She is constantly aware of socially conscious activities, whether it be an event hosted by an organization, or a musical artist with a progressive message for the masses. Kaye is a current intern at Break the Silence, a non-profit organization promoting recognition for those unseen through murals internationally. She strongly believes that the arts is a powerful social justice tool to spread awareness. When she is not working as a nanny, Kaye is a dancer and a foodie at heart. She loves exploring new flavors, and going to concerts, and will try almost anything for the first time. With an appetite for adventure Kaye is always looking for ways to travel and explore new places, whether that be overseas or right here in Seattle.

The Seattle Children’s Hospital is not just a hospital but it is also a research center that sees hundreds of thousands of patients per year, not to mention the millions of dollars worth of pro-bono work that is done. The hospital’s mission is simply to “care for every child in our region, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.” Aspiring to “provide the safest, most effective care possible. Control and reduce the cost of providing care. Find cures and educate clinicians and researchers. Grow responsibly and provide access to every child who needs us.”

On December 14th Downtown at the Showbox there is a benefit show where the community has a chance to thank the work that the staff and volunteer members of the Seattle Children’s Hospital give tirelessly by donating. This will be the second year that local radio station KEXP is hosting Seattle Musicians for Children’s Hospital or SMooCH. “KEXP is honored to help curate such an incredible night for our music scene and for our children,” said John Richards, KEXP Morning Show Host/Producer.  This year’s lineup is an amazing, diverse mix of some of the best established and emerging Pacific Northwest talent”.
