On Saturday October 26th, New Yorkers stepped out in their creative Halloween costumes to attend FashionAide’s Halloween Party and clothing drive event, benefiting The Door. The event was held at Sotto 13 and the West Village.

FashionAide was founded by Jacqueline Jones, who is a fashion jewelry developer and philanthropist. Jackie grew up as a foster child and adoptee in New York City, giving her a yearning to help out and give back to the community. Due to her fashion experience, the idea for FashionAide was born.

FashionAide is centered on the vision that fashion plays a huge role in the way that youth and young adults are able to shape their identities. It makes them feel great as well as being a creative outlet and art form. Therefore, this organization works with various charities to provide clothing drives as well as “Style 101” tutorials for dressing for many different occasions and body types. The main goal is to help the disadvantaged young adults feel self-assured and significant, every day of their life.

Enjoying the costume contest!

For this event, FashionAide benefitted The Door, an organization that provides classes, tutoring, homework help, legal assistance, job training and placement, housing and so much more, all under one roof. Throughout the event, volunteers collected the many bags of donated clothing from each guest that attended the event. The guests were then rewarded with raffle tickets, the amount depended on how many articles of clothing you donated. They had so many wonderful donated gifts that each guest spent time trying to win with their raffle tickets!

Each table was decorated with Halloween candy and candles and most of the guests were dressed in their favorite spooky costumer, in an attempt to win the competitive costume contest. There was everything from peacocks to flapper, monks to Tinkerbelle, and everything in between! Overall, it was a very successful event with a huge amount of clothing being able to be delivered to The Door. It was great to see everyone who came out to celebrate Halloween and contribute to this great cause!
