Miss A Columnist

Lesley Haenny is the Seattle Editor for Miss A. She is an Air Force wife now living in the Seattle area. Prior to living in Seattle, Lesley spent 7 years in Washington, DC, working as a Congressional liaison. She grew up in a small, mountain town in Southern California, sandwiched between an older sister and a younger brother. Her two hard working parents taught her to always go for the clearance rack, bring your lunch everyday, work hard for what you have, and always take the opportunity to travel and play outside. Lesley has been actively involved in various charities such as the Animal Resource Foundation, Komen For the Cure, Prevent Cancer Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the Race for Hope (benefitting the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure).

Team Up For Nonprofits, a 501(c)3 that harnesses the power of music and social media to raise funds and awareness for other nonprofits, will be hosting the final Gigs4Good for 2013 on Thursday, November 14 at Tractor Tavern. Proceeds will benefit Team Up For Nonprofits 2014 Gigs4Good series. The show will feature awesome music from Motopony, Big Sur and Bigfoot Wallace & His Wicked Sons.

For the past four years, Team Up for Nonprofits has been producing music benefits called Gigs4Good to build capacity for other nonprofits based in the Seattle area. Each Gigs4Good benefit supports nonprofit partners in three ways:

1. Raise much needed funds, a minimum of 75 percent of the ticket price to each event is donated to the nonprofit partner (each show has a different partner).

2. Deliver increased awareness to the 20s and 30s age group, achieved through social media engagement, strategic event advertising and the use of carefully curated, high quality music events.

3. Provide a low impact event in terms of resources and time required for nonprofit partners.

In 2013, the Gigs4Good series benefited three incredible Seattle-area nonprofits, including Rain City Rock Camp For Girls, One Day’s Wages and the Outdoors For All Foundation.  Come out and celebrate a successful year of philanthropy and charity!
