Deutsches Haus Presents Oktoberfest 2013 In New Orleans

Celebrating all aspects of German culture, New OrleansDeutsches Haus will hold its annual Oktoberfest. With events spanning three weekends, you can expect plenty of opportunities to enjoy food, music, and of course, beer. Other special events will include family-friendly feats of strength (of both the two and four-legged kind), as well as a raffle.

This year’s Oktoberfest will take place from 4 – 11 p.m. on Fridays (October 11, 18, and 25), and from 1 – 11 p.m. on Saturdays (October 12, 19, and 26). Each day, live music will be presented, including performances by Prost!, Ira Milan’s Polka Band, Bayou Bavarians, and The Adrian Show.

The menu will feature delectable sausages and sides, as well as a rotating selection of other German favorites. In addition to pork loin and meatloaf, you will find stuffed cabbage rolls, goulash, potato dishes, and of course, sauerkraut. As for the tap, available beers with include brews from Becks, Kostritzer, Spaten, Warsteiner, and more.

Although one day at Oktoberfest will provide a wealth of fun, you may want to consider making multiple trips to the Deutches Haus. While a beer stein holding contest will be held daily, special “one-time only” events will include Dachshund Races (October 12), a 5K Run/Walk (October 19), and wine tasting (October 26).

One of New Orleans’ leading cultural groups, Deutches Haus is dedicated to fostering the “musical heritage, language and history of the German people.” The Oktoberfest fundraiser generates proceeds that support and sustain the organization’s year-round efforts.
