Austin City Limits 2013: Go Green For the Festival

The first weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival kicks off on Friday, and it’s time to start getting your game face ready. To appreciate the weekend to its fullest, put in a little time in advance to plan and prepare.

Here is an easy-to-follow guide with a few key ways you can stay green during the festival.

Bring a Water Bottle

Austin in October is still hot. One of the good things about ACL is that they will have CamelBak Filling Stations, so you can refill your own water bottle while helping reduce waste. If you forget to bring a water bottle, you can purchase one from a vendor, then refill it throughout the weekend. Another cool thing about the water at ACL is that only Boxed Water will be sold. There will be no plastic.

Ride a bike, walk or use public transportation

With any big event like this, you never want to count on parking at the venue, because you know it will be limited, if not non-existent. Austin knows this too. Two great ideas to getting around this problem, is to find a place to park near downtown or close to Zilker Park, and plan on walking or taking the bus. Capital Metro will also provide free shuttle service from Republic Square at the corner of 4th & Guadalupe. Lastly, Austin has pedi-cabs available that will be a great way to get back to your car after rocking out all day.

Rock & Recycle

There will be four  Rock & Recycle centers at the festival. In order to earn this year’s commemorative t-shirt, all guests have to do is fill up a bag with recyclables from around the park. This will also help keep Zilker beautiful. Be sure to visit one of the centers for more information and for a chance to win a bike.

These are only some of the ways you can help go green for the festival. Nature Conservancy, Green Mountain Energy Company and other selected organizations will be part of ACL Cares. Be sure to visit their booths at the festival to learn how you can do more.
