Halloween is just around the corner! This is such a great time to work on fall crafts and make up some scary surprises for your home. Also, with the days being shorter and a more blustery outside you might be looking for some indoor activities to keep your kiddos busy. Here are a few suggestions for some kid friendly crafts that will also bring the spirit of Halloween around the house and some cool decorating ideas for outdoors. I also included a few costume ideas if your kids are still debating on the perfect costume.
Craft Projects for Kids:
This is an easy art project for your kids to do on the next rainy day. They can create their own skeleton with uncooked pasta. Just give the kids a skeleton image as a guide, some glue, pasta and some construction paper and they are off. They will also get a little anatomy lesson while they are at it!
Another idea that might be fun for decorating is making some creepy mice to crawl around your house. Download the mice template and just cut them out and hide them around the house to give visitors a little scare. I personally will not be doing this craft this year, it hits a little too close to home, we have had enough mice for now!
More Decorating Ideas:
If you are looking for a fall wreath for your front door, consider putting your kids to work making it! This fun DYI Wreath only requires a few materials and will keep the kids busy putting it together. All you need are lentils, beans, glue, paper plates, ribbon and scissors. Read more here.
I love this idea of ghosts lighting the way to my door! Using old milk cartons, a sharpie and an outdoor light, you can make a nicely, lit path for your trick-or-treaters. Get all the instructions here. You can also get the same look with glass containers and construction paper. Check out the instructions for that here. I also love this idea of using chicken wire and white paint to create ghost silhouettes in the yard, although I couldn’t do this in my yard, I would love to see these while we are out and about.
Still Trying to Decide on a Costume?
If you or your children are still trying to come up with the perfect costume for Halloween this year, here are some great last minute ideas that look simple to create with a lot of things that you already have at home.
And if you are trying to figure out what to do with all that candy after the Halloween madness is over, check out this Mom’s ideas for what to do with leftovers. Baking with chocolate bars and donating it to others (outside of your home) are my top picks. Or you can always Trick or Treat for UNICEF.
Whatever you decide to do on Halloween remember to enjoy this time with your kids while they will still let you go with them, enjoy your friends and all the little ghosts and goblins that come to your door. Stay safe and stay warm!
