Miss A Columnist

Carolyn Samuelson is a young woman charged with curiosity and creativity. Her deep connection to the outdoors comes from growing up in Seattle and led her to study Environmental Science at DePaul University in Chicago. It was there that she discovered the enjoyments of writing. Having recently moved to California, for obvious reasons, she is happy to call this beautiful state her (current) home. She also writes for Locale Magazine and her personal site, which is soon to be released to the public and will include her music projects. She believes in bucket lists, expansion of one's horizons and lexicon, astrological compatibility and that almost anything can find its place in a salad. She equates a strong body with a strong mind. As a lactose intolerant cookie lover, she laments the ironies of the universe but understands they are beyond her control. She is passionate about environmental & social justice, and strives to involve herself in global outreach initiatives.

She is interested in writing about things going on around the city including music events, fun fitness routines, influential leaders and delectable cookies - if she's going to eat one, it must be worth it. A two-part question that grounds and inspires her is: How can one gain perspective in this enormous world, and what small, but meaningful contributions can be made to make it better?

In conjunction with Taylor Guitars, San Diego Music Awards developed Guitars for Schools, which provides Baby or Big Baby Taylor guitars to public elementary, middle, and high school students in San Diego County. The program has boosted the quality of existing musical curriculum and has aided in the reduced budgeting for music instruction. To learn how you can donate or get involved, click here.
