Trick Or Treat For UNICEF

My kids are already gearing up for Halloween, the costumes have been picked out and we are getting ready to get the home decorations out.  But this year, we have a new opportunity to give back when we get new decorations or while we are trick or treating.

Interactive multichannel retailer HSN, Inc. and its family of lifestyle brands including HSN, Grandin Road and Chasing Fireflies, are giving back this Halloween season.  In its first ever partnership with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, HSNi, through its philanthropic arm HSNi Cares, will help raise awareness and funds as a national sponsor for the 63rd annual Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. Join HSN Cares in supporting this nationwide campaign supporting UNICEF’s stand for safe and healthy children around the world. Since 1950, when girls and boys across the nation first collected coins to aid children still affected by World War II, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has enabled Americans to help create a better world for kids everywhere.

The idea of Trick or Treat for UNICEF and giving back started in 1947 with Mary Emma Allison. At the end of a busy Halloween night spent handing out candy to children, Mrs. Allison made a simple, but significant, observation to her husband, Reverend Clyde Allison: “It’s too bad we can’t turn this into something good.” Reverend Allison agreed, and the two of them got to work developing an idea that would eventually become Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. “We have a responsibility to protect the future of our children locally, nationally and globally,” said Mindy Grossman, CEO of HSN, Inc. and U.S. Fund for UNICEF board member.  “I am passionate about the tremendous impact that Caryl Stern and the U.S. Fund for UNICEF are having on the lives of children and families all over the world.  At HSNi, we strive to cultivate a culture of generosity.  Our people are not only creative and passionate about what they do, but also about giving back and we are honored to be partnering with UNICEF for their 63rd annual Trick-or-Treat campaign.”

Special Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF online stores have been established on Chasing-Fireflies.com, Grandinroad.com and HSN.com where consumers can purchase all of their Halloween essentials and decorating accessories for any Fall entertaining occasion. From now until October 31, 2013, when customers purchase items found in one of the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF stores, HSNi will donate a minimum of 10 percent of the purchase price to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.

If you want donate in a different way you can still donate online here, or you can get a collection box and have your kids Trick or Treat for UNICEF this Halloween. It’s the original Kids-Helping-Kids® movement! And a lot better than pounds of candy in the house!
