Recap: California Wildlife Center Wild Brunch

2736130_300When you think of California wildlife, you’re probably thinking the same thing I am: Slash from Guns N Roses and Shannon Doherty. And you would be correct. The two stars along with others, including Mira Sorvino, were on hand to help raise money for the California Wildlife Center in Malibu this past weekend at the annual “Wild Brunch.” Hundreds of animal lovers gathered in Malibu, Calif. to enjoy the finest Malibu and Napa wines and gourmet vegetarian cuisine while taking in a live and silent auction. The crescendo and most enlightening and on-point affair of the day was the release of one of the rehabilitated wild animals, a falcon, making the non-profit’s message seen in actuality.

The California Wildlife Center is the premier wildlife medical care and rehabilitation facility in Los Angeles. The center, “strives to ensure that each animal receives the highest level of rescue and medical care for release back to their wild, free-ranging state.” They have kept up this momentum since 1998, caring for over 32,000 wild animals since opening their doors. The most important goal for them is, “to promote protection of wild habitats and the environment through education, training and partnerships with the communities it serves”.

For six years, famed jewelry designer, Alberto Parada has shown his continuing support by actively participating in the event.  This year, he donated a $11,500 piece of jewelry to the auction.  He’s known for his collection of sustainable fine jewelry, adding a touch of glamor to eco-conscious lifestyles; a perfect fit for the occasion at hand. Parada also donated 20 percent of sales that day to the organization. The high quality jewels sparkled bright, coming in second to the brilliant love and support present in the crowd.
