CASA of Travis County made a splash at their CASABlanca Gala this year when they raised almost 300,000 for their mission with the live and silent auctions alone, including an anonymous donor who agreed to match the night’s fund-a-need up to 100,000. Now it is time for their annual Superhero run where people run to fight for abused and neglected children. This year, the event will take place at Mueller Lake Park and Hanger and raise funds for Casa of Travis County and Casa of Williamson County. As in year’s past, the event will consist of a 5K chip-timed run, a Kids K and a costume contest for humans and dogs. The costumes are often reminiscent of superheroes in pop culture or heroes that have been invented by the participants themselves. Prizes will be awarded for the winners of the races and contests, as well as the team captain who recruits the most people to join his or her team for the race. The funds raised from the event will go toward the Court Appointed Special Advocates who work for the children that they are assigned. So many of these are pairings lead to success stories, and CASA hopes to expand its reach and ensure that every child who has been abused or neglected has a CASA to fight for them.
