Atlanta’s Rony Delgarde, the founder of Global Paint for Charity and recently named a 2013 Allstate Champion for Good as a part of the Give It Up For Good campaign, was in for quite a surprise when he thought he was simply attending a paint drive last Tuesday, August 20. To celebrate this prestigious honor, several members of Global Paint for Charity and the Atlanta community surprised Delgarde at a Global Paint for Charity paint drive. Under the assumption that he was simply attending the paint drive and meeting a photographer, Delgarde was visibly stunned to enter the room and see everyone there in support of his work.
“We’re proud to recognize Rony Delgarde as a 2013 Allstate Champion For Good for his dedication to making a difference and serving others,” said local Allstate agent, Darrin Collins. “In recognition of Rony, we’re bringing him to the Allstate Tom Joyner Family Reunion this Labor Day to participate in a live Twitter chat with other Champions for Good.” Collins continued by encouraging those in attendance to share their stories of good on the Give It Up For Good website and also encouraged everyone to use the hashtag #giveitupforgood and follow the Twitter chat on Friday, August 30 at 9 a.m.
Trying to find words, Delgarde looked around and thanked each person for coming out to support him. He then looked at Collins and said, “With this trophy and this honor, we will continue to work hard but I want you to know that this doesn’t just represent what I’ve done, it represents the work of everyone, and their work has helped make my dream a reality.”
Global Paint for Charity is a nonprofit organization that collects leftover paint free of charge and instead of disposing into landfills, consolidates, ships and distributes the unwanted paint to families in developing countries around the world. The organization aims to give each homeowner in the developing countries they serve the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of their home through every gallon of recycled paint.
