This coming week, Thursday, August 22 through Saturday, August 24, New Orleans‘ Ogden Museum of Southern Art will commemorate its tenth anniversary with a multi-day celebration. Special events will include an evening concert, day of free admission, and fun-for-all family fair. Come out and support the first decade of this ground-breaking institution, which is dedicated to the “understanding and appreciation of the visual arts and culture of the American South.”
On Thursday, August 22, from 5:30-8p.m., Matt Lemmier, newly-elected governor of the GRAMMY Recording Academy, will present a performance of his “Southern Sonatas and Songs” for Ogden After Hours. An acclaimed jazz musician, the Lower Ninth Ward native will create the perfect environment for perusing the museum’s extensive collection that includes many locally-inspired and produced pieces.
Ogden visitors will enjoy free admission throughout the day on Friday, August 23. Amongst other featured works, the much acclaimed Louisiana Contemporary, Kohlmeyer Circle, and Southern Imagists collections will be on display to enjoy.
Saturday, August 24, will feature treats for all ages with a special family fair from 10:00a.m. – 2:00p.m. The recreated Southern Country Fair will showcase interactive arts and crafts, including hobby horses and calliope puppets. Other attractions that are sure to entertain include live music, as well as food from Dat Dog, Ye Olde Kettle Cooker, and more.
