Miss A Columnist

Erin Gentry, while “not quite” a native of Nashville, has lived here for officially more years than she cares to admit to. Hailing from Alabama, Erin relocated to Music City to earn a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lipscomb University. She later moved down the boulevard and completed a Master of Arts in Teaching from Belmont University. Since these are both Christian-affiliated private universities, Erin enjoys making people either laugh or cringe by describing her educational pursuits as “switching brands of Jesus,” but it’s all in good fun.
Erin is a self-professed purveyor of knowledge, and if you manage to find her without her nose in a book (ok, Kindle), she is probably teaching adolescents, teaching Barre fitness, or wrangling small children. Her other passions include caffeine and wine (but not necessarily in that order).

The Avenue® Murfreesboro will host the seventh annual Taste of Stones River, a culinary festival, in support of the Primary Care and Hope Clinic on Saturday, August 24, from 4 – 8 p.m. Attendees will be treated to samples of culinary creations from a multitude of area restaurants (for the long list of participating restaurants and vendors, visit the official Facebook page here). In addition to the tastings, live music will be provided by local bands MidDay Farm Report, The O’Donnells and Mid South Mobile Djs, and a Kids Fun Zone will be available for the wee ones.

Admission to the event is free, and tasting tickets can be purchased on site for 50 cents each, enabling attendees to choose which and how many gastric delights to splurge on. According to the official Taste of Stones River 2013 website, each booth will require between 1-5 tickets to sample signature dishes. Armbands to the Kids Fun Zone will be sold for $6 each at the ticket booth.

Need to justify the extra caloric splurge? All proceeds will benefit the Primary Care and Hope Clinic, a non-profit organization which provides affordable, quality health care to uninsured and underserved families in Middle Tennessee. Feel free to think of it as calories for a cause (and we all know that guilt-free calories are the tastiest)!
